Einen israelischen Angriff auf iranische Atomlagen schloss er zunächst jedoch aus. "Ich bin besorgt darüber - und wir vernehmen diese Signale eher aus Europa als aus den USA - dass sich die Welt allmählich an den Gedanken gewöhnt, dass der Iran eines Tages zu dem Kreis der Staaten mit Atomwaffen zählen wird", sagte Sharon am Donnerstag dem Sender "Radio Israel".

Sharon rief die USA auf, sich an die Spitze einer internationalen Koalition zu stellen, die auf den Iran mehr Druck ausüben solle. Auf die Frage, ob er auch einen Angriff auf den Iran in Betracht ziehe, antwortete Sharon: "Ich glaube nicht, dass dies die Zeit für ein militärisches Eingreifen ist." Israel soll nach Medienberichten über detaillierte Pläne zur Zerstörung iranischer Atomanlagen verfügen.

LONDON, April 29 (IranMania) - An expected showdown in Iran-EU nuclear talks on Friday in London should be more sound than fury as both sides feel the negotiations are basically on hold until after Iranian presidential elections in June, diplomats said.

Another diplomat said the talks, expected to be in the evening, would be at the level of political directors of foreign ministries but held secretly and away from the press.

"I also don't think there is any need also to take physical action against Iran. It would be unwise, very unwise," the UN chief said at the end of a four-day visit to India.

They are much more difficult for SAMs and other air defences to track or attempt to engage. The only way to effectively deal with cruise missiles is to use AWACS to guide in fighters. Even then its hard for the fighters' AAMs to engage the missiles. Trying to intercept cruise missiles over land is a difficult challenge for the defending side

TEHRAN -- The Majlis ratified a bill on Sunday obliging the government to develop the complete nuclear fuel cycle for peaceful purposes within the framework of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is obliged to take action to obtain nuclear technology meant for peaceful purposes, including provision of the fuel cycle for generating 20,000 megawatts of electricity," the bill reads.

The bill was approved by 188 out of the 205 lawmakers present in the Majlis.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi also said on Sunday that the government should implement the bill ratified by the parliament.

In nuclear talks with the European Union, which is represented by Germany, France, and Britain, Iran voluntarily agreed to suspend its uranium enrichment program in order to allay concerns about its nuclear program, but Iran has been increasingly frustrated with the sluggish pace of talks with the EU and has announced that it is quite serious about ending the suspension and restarting part of the program.

Iran said Saturday that it was "examining" a proposal on its uranium work it said has been made by Russia just days ahead of crisis nuclear talks with Britain, France and Germany.

Top nuclear negotiator Cyrus Nasseri told AFP that "the Russians have made a proposal" under which Iran would apparently be able to resume uranium conversion work at a plant in Isfahan, but the gas produced would be sent to Russia for the ultra-sensitive process of enrichment.

The resulting nuclear fuel would then be transferred back to Iran to power the Bushehr power station, which is being built with Russian assistance.

"We are in the process of examining this proposal," Nasseri said, but gave no further details.

However his comments were at odds with Washington, who said a similar proposal had been made by Iran -- and not the Russians.

"There is apparently an Iranian idea like this that they have floated with the Russians," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said Friday, before going on to rubbish the proposal.

Diese für den 25. Mai in Genf geplante Diskussion soll nach Ansicht Teherans nun endlich vor Augen führen, dass ein Kompromiss zwischen den Verhandlungspartnern im Prinzip möglich ist. Der iranische Außenminister, Kamal Charrasi, bezeichnete das bevorstehende Treffen als "letzte Chance".

Der Sinn des russischen Vorschlages in der Auslegung Teherans besteht darin, dass Iran Uran-Hexafluorid herstellt, das dann nach Russland geliefert wird, wo daraus Kernbrennstoff für die iranische Atomindustrie hergestellt wird.

Theoretisch wäre eine solche Variante für die europäischen Verhandlungspartner annehmbar. Den Europäern wird es überaus schwer fallen, etwas gegen die Idee der Anreicherung von iranischem Uran in Russland einzuwenden. Der Vorschlag entspricht voll und ganz den letzten Trends in der internationalen Atompolitik. Im Grunde genommen soll die Anreicherung von iranischem Uran in Russland eine absolute Garantie für die friedliche Ausrichtung des iranischen Atomprogramms sein.

Das ist die Meinung Teherans. In Washington wird die Situation aber ganz anders betrachtet. Die Administration von George W. Bush ist der Ansicht, dass diese Variante nicht von Russland, sondern von Teheran initiiert wurde, und bewertet sie als einen weiteren Beweis dafür, dass Teheran in den Besitz von Kernwaffen gelangen möchte. ...
