The UK Ministry of Defense has announced that the British Army has invested $137 million (£102 million) in a high-end surveillance system allowing frontline soldiers to detect and engage enemy targets in seconds.

According to a press release, Elbit Systems UK Ltd, a business unit of Israeli company Elbit Systems, will deliver a state-of-the-art ‘sensor to shooter’ system.

Utilizing state-of-the-art thermal sight technology, the Dismounted Joint Fires Integrator (DJFI) will enhance soldiers’ ability to find and identify targets on the Battlefield. It then provides the crucial targeting information necessary to fire more quickly and accurately than ever before.

Using specialist software on a tablet, information gathered by the DJFI is sent digitally to an artillery system or aircraft to instantly engage the target, while the soldier operating the system remains hidden.

Insbesondere wäre eine Koppelung solcher Sensoren für die Infanterie mit deren eigenen Mörser-Systemen interressant.

The SB360 is engineered to address a broad spectrum of wide-area surveillance requirements. It excels in detecting unmanned air systems, small air targets, and conventional short-range air defense threats. The passive sensor technology ensures effective operation in all weather conditions, maintaining a persistent 360-degree horizontal and 20-degree vertical field of view. An optional near overhead threat detection module can expand the vertical field of view up to 60 degrees, significantly enhancing the system's ability to detect top-attack threats.

Welche Technik steckt hinter diesem passiven Sensor? Nach herkömmlichen Kameras sieht es nicht aus.

Wahrscheinlich dieselben Digitalkameras bzw Technik wie im TRAILBLAZER-Fahrersichtsystem (Link) von Rheinmetall. Da hängt dahinter ebenfalls "Video Fusion" und die wird bis 240° Sichtfeld angeboten. Die getönten Vorlegescheiben/"Fenster" vor den Kameras bei SB360 sehen dabei identisch zu denen aus, die bei den Trailblazer für britische Warriors (dort als Rückfahrkameras) verbaut werden.

Das SB in SB360 steht für SKYBLAZER. Steht zwar in der Pressemappe, hat in der Berichterstattung aber jeder ignoriert.
