Britain has trained dozens of Yemeni security officers and spent tens of thousands of pounds supplying equipment to the regime over the past five years, the Government said tonight.
£90,000 worth of spare ‘non-lethal public order equipment’ was handed over to the government, junior defence minister Peter Luff said. ‘Professional development training’ was also given to 34 Yemeni security force students.
Foreign Secretary William Hague has been a fierce critic of the Yemeni authorities' crackdown on pro-democracy protesters since popular revolts began earlier this year.
