At least seven large explosions and automatic gunfire have rocked the central diplomatic area of the Afghan capital Kabul, Reuters news agency quoted witnesses as saying on Sunday.

Gunfire appeared to be coming from various directions in the heavily barricaded diplomatic area of central Kabul close to both the US and British embassies.
