Commander: Iran Committed to Maintaining Persian Gulf Security

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian military commander reiterated Tehran's commitment to the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormoz, and cautioned that foreign military presence will only undermine the security of the strategic waterway.

"Providing security for the region is our main priority for the Islamic Republic of Iran," Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces for Operational Affairs Brigadier General Mostafa Salami said, addressing the 10th Iran-Oman Joint Military Committee meeting here in Tehran today.

"Accordingly, we have always tried to maintain sustainable security of the Persian Gulf and we will make use of the country's entire power for that end," Salami added.

"We believe that security of the region can only be materialized by the regional countries and the presence of the arrogant powers will not help peace and tranquility but will undermine it."
