Offenbar hochrangiger Verlust auf Seiten der iranischen Pasdaran im Irak. Über die Umstände gibt es widersprüchliche Angaben. Die amerikanische CBS verbreitet die offiziöse Fassung, nach der der iranische General "im Gefecht" starb. Andere Quellen sprechen von einem gezielten Angriff mittels Heckenschütze:

Taqavi is believed to be the highest-ranking Iranian military officer to have been killed in Iraq while battling ISIS, which captured large parts of northern and western Iraq earlier this year.

The Guard said Taqavi was assisting Iraqi troops and Shiite volunteers defending Samarra, a city north of Baghdad which is home to a major Shiite shrine. It said a funeral procession will be held in Tehran on Monday.

Das steigert zwar nicht die Moral in ihren Reihen, aber macht die Kämpfer besonders gefährlich wenn sie unter Druck stehen. Denn, sterben werden sie eh. Möglicherweise wird es dieser Logik folgend zunehmend Massaker an Zivilisten geben, wenn sie selbst den Eindruck gewinnen auf die Verliererstraße zu geraten.

Coalition warplanes kill dozens of ISIS militants in al-Anbar
