An Indian air force fighter jet has crashed into a village in western Gujarat state killing four people, police say.
The Russian-built MiG-21 ploughed into houses in Lakha Bawal, a village 20km (12.5 miles) from the town of Jamnagar. The pilot ejected safely.
Two of those killed were children. At least another 15 people were hurt.
India's ageing MiG-21s have an appalling safety record - more than 30 have crashed in the past year alone.
Friday's crash, 10 minutes after take-off from an air force base at Jamnagar, was the second such incident in a civilian area this month.
Those killed instantly were a 19-year-old man and two five-year-olds, a boy and a girl, a police official said. A 50-year-old man died later in hospital.
Burning aviation fuel spilled across the village as the plane broke up, the AFP news agency reported.
Seven houses were set on fire among a total of 15 that were damaged, police said.
The jet was not carrying any ammunition, an Indian air force spokesman told the BBC.(...)
