ANKARA [MENL] -- Turkey has launched a drive to expand military relations with Arab states.
Officials said the priority was for Ankara to increase military cooperation with Gulf Cooperation Council states. They said Ankara sought to help train GCC and other Arab militaries and serve as an F-16 training center for such countries as Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
Turkish Chief of Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok has concluded a tour of Arab states where he discussed defense and military relations. This week's trip began in the United Arab Emirates, then continued to Yemen and Qatar.
In Abu Dhabi, a Turkish military delegation met UAE military chiefs. Turkish Air Force commander Gen. Ibrahim Firtina met his UAE counterpart, Maj. Gen. Khalid Bin Abdullah Albu Ainain.
