Zitat:South Korea has begun testing prototypes of its new IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle.) The 25 ton vehicle is amphibious (moving a six kilometers an hour in the water, compared to 70 on roads). Called the NIFV (Next Infantry Fighting Vehicle), the army will buy 900 of them, with deliveries beginning in 2008. The vehicles will cost $2.5 million each (compared to $4.5 million each for the 33 ton American M-2 Bradley IFV). The vehicle is 22 feet long, 11 feet wide and eight feet high. It has a 40mm auto-cannon (300 rounds a minute) and anti-tank missiles. The vehicle is equipped with lots of electronic devices, including laser and heat sensors to detect incoming fire, plus GPS, digital data communications, night vision and an IFF (Identify, Friend of Foe) system. The 40mm cannon can take on helicopters, and has a maximum range of 7 kilometers. The NIFV has a three man crew, and carries nine infantrymen as well. South Korea claims that the NIFV will be superior to the older American M-2.
