Weißes Haus kritisiert Reise von US-Demokraten nach Damaskus
Washington (dpa) - Das Weiße Haus hat eine geplante Reise von hochrangigen US-Demokraten in die syrische Hauptstadt Damaskus als «wirklich schlechte Idee» kritisiert. Syriens Präsident Baschar al- Assad habe lediglich ein Interesse an einem Fototermin oder einem Kaffeeplausch mit amerikanischen Gästen, meinte die Sprecherin des Weißen Hauses, Dana Perino. Die US-Regierung beschuldigt Assad, Aufständische im Irak und Terroristen in der gesamten Region zu unterstützen sowie den Libanon dominieren zu wollen.
