In Wahrheit aber eher ein Spähpanzer.

Zitat:General Dynamics European Land Systems-Santa Barbara Sistemas is exhibiting the artillery observation variant of their Pizarro infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) family at Eurosatory 2016.

The Pizarro forward observation vehicle (FOV) has a crew of five comprising the commander and gunner in the two-person turret, a driver, and two observers in the rear, one of whom can be used in the dismounted role with a link to the platform.

The mast mounted sensor pod is in the left rear of the vehicle and includes a day camera, thermal camera, and a laser rangefinder to enable targets to be identified under almost all types of weather conditions.

Target information is then passed onto to the artillery fire co-ordination centre to enable the target to be rapidly engaged.

When not required the sensor pod is retracted into the hull under full armour protection.

An auxiliary power unit is mounted externally on the hull on the left side at the rear, which enables all of the vehicle's key subsystems to be operated with the main engine switched off.

The turret retains its Mauser 30 mm MK 30-2 dual feed cannon and 7.62 mm co-axial machine gun (MG).

A total of 144 Pizarro vehicles were delivered under the first contract for the Spanish Army with 121 configured as IFVs and 23 as command and control (C2) platforms.

The second contract was originally for 190 units in four versions but this was subsequently reduced to 120 units in three versions - comprising 83 IFVs, 36 combat engineer platforms, and one FOV vehicle.

Under current plans it is not expected that additional Pizarro FOVs will be procured.

This role will eventually be taken over by a dedicated FOV based on the Swiss General Dynamics European Land Systems MOWAG 8x8 Piranha 5 vehicle.

Spain has already ordered four Piranha 5 platforms for trials and these are due to be delivered in late-2017.
